World's Largest Cruise Ship Sets Sail

The world's biggest cruise ship has set sail on its first trip from Florida to the Caribbean.

Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas is the biggest cruise ship to ever set sail. The huge boat can board 6,988 guests and 2,300 crew on a total of 18 decks.

The ship is 362 meters long — just one meter longer than its sister ship, and the previous largest cruise ship, Symphony of the Seas. Onboard experiences include a surf pool, two rock climbing walls and a 10-deck-high zip line, as well as a park with 20,000 real plants.

Guests can also experience a new level of luxury in the Suite Neighborhood, which offers private pools and restaurants for travelers who book a suite room on the ship.

Setting sail a year later than planned, the construction of Wonder of the Seas hasn't been without problems. Royal Caribbean first ordered the ship in 2016, but COVID-19 caused delays to the building schedule, moving the launch to 2022.

The ship has launched over a month after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) made its COVID-19 guidelines optional for cruise lines. The guidelines, which use colors from green to red to show the number of COVID-19 cases onboard, are designed to help travelers make better decisions before choosing to travel.

Almost all cruise lines in US waters, including Royal Caribbean, have chosen to continue to follow the CDC's guidelines. According to CDC data, a total of 113 ships are following the guidelines — and only one has chosen not to do so.

세계에서 가장 큰 크루즈선이 플로리다에서 카리브해로 가는 첫 여정으로 출항했다.

Royal Caribbean의 Wonder of the Seas 크루즈선은 역대 출항한 배들 중 가장 큰 배이다. 총 18개의 층으로 6,988명의 손님과 2,300명의 승무원을 수용할 수 있다.

이 배의 길이는 362m로 자매선이자 지금까지 가장 큰 배였던 Symphony of the Seas보다 겨우 1m가 길다. 크루즈 내에서 할 수 있는 활동들에는 서핑을 할 수 있는 수영장과 두개의 암벽등반 벽, 10개 갑판 높이의 짚라인 그리고 20,000개의 실제 식물들이 있는 공원이 포함되어있다.

또한 스위트 룸을 예약한 여행객들은 개인 수영장과 식당을 제공해주는 Suite Neighborhood에서 차원이 다른 호화로움을 경험할 수 있다.

계획했던 것보다 1년 늦게 출항을 하게되면서 Wonder of the Seas 건설에 문제가 없었던 적이 없다. Royal Caribbean은 2016년 처음 배 건설을 요청했지만 COVID 19로 인해 건설 계획이 미뤄졌고 2022년 출항하게 되었다.

미국 질병통제관리센터(CDC)가 크루즈 산업을 위한 임의적 COVID 19 가이드라인을 만들고 한달이 지나서야 물에 띄우게 되었다. 초록색부터 빨간색까지 색깔을 이용해 COVID 19 확진자 수를 나타내주는 이 가이드라인은 여행객들이 여행을 선택하기 전 조금 더 나은 선택을 하는데 도움을 주기위해 만들어졌다.

Royal Caribbean을 포함한 미국 해상을 운항하는 거의 모든 크루즈 선박 회사들은 CDC의 가이드라인을 계속해서 따르기로 결정했다. CDC 데이터에 따르면 오직 하나의 배를 제외한 총 113개의 배가 이 가이드라인을 따르고 있다고 한다.
